Custom solid wood furniture by designer Michael Bartolac. Every piece is hand-made, one at a time, built strong enough for a family to grow with.
A long time ago in Marysville, Ohio, Michael Bartolac started developing his skills as an artist while dabbling in furniture. As he and his brother grew older and heavier, it became important to learn how to fix furniture they'd break while wrestling — before mom found out.
One year, they broke the couch frame at age 13 and fixed it with part of the Christmas tree they'd just thrown out. It was the only wood available.
After art school, business school, and four years at a design agency, Michael was downsized — and decided to pursue his own business full time. That's when Broken Tree was born.
What I do know more than anything is that there aren't too many questions that hard work won't answer.
Every piece is hand-made from solid wood. No laminates, no particle board — just real furniture built to last.
Custom used to mean "I can't afford it." Now it means I can't afford not to. Why go through the hassle of shopping for wood furniture when we can design and build exactly what you want?
Armoires, Beds, Benches, Cabinets, Chairs, Chests, Dressers, Shelves, Tables & More
You pick the design, the size, and the color. Made from solid pine with coated steel screws — comparable to popular brands, but made from real wood.
Grown from leftover wood — walnut, oak, cherry, sapele, mahogany, maple. No laminates, no particle board. Just solid wood boxes.
Outdoor wood furniture — does it last? Yes, it does. Build it with thick wood and strong screws, and it will last 20+ years.
From time to time, Michael picks out the design and wood himself. These signature pieces showcase his personal artistry and vision.
From first conversation to front door — here's how a custom piece comes to life.
Every piece starts with a conversation. Since everything is built from scratch, Michael sits down with you to discuss exactly what you want — dimensions, wood type, style, everything. This consultation is always free.
After meeting, two things happen: a detailed cost estimate and a 3D rendering of your piece. This is where you start to see it come to life before any wood is cut.
Once the design and estimate are approved with 50% upfront, building begins. From raw wood to finished furniture, the process takes roughly 2-4 weeks. Pay by cash, check, Visa, Discover, or PayPal.
When your piece is complete, we arrange a delivery time that works best for you. From raw lumber to your living room — that's the Broken Tree process.

Michael built us a dining table that seats 10 and it is absolutely stunning. The walnut grain is gorgeous and you can tell every joint was done by hand.
honestly I was nervous about spending the money on custom furniture but it was SO worth it. the entertainment center fits our weird shaped wall perfectly
We ordered keepsake boxes for our three daughters — each one from a different wood. Cherry, walnut, and maple. Heirloom pieces that will be passed down for generations.
Got porch chairs and a matching table. Been through two Ohio winters and still solid as the day delivered. Great outdoor furniture.
From the first meeting to delivery, Michael genuinely cared about every detail. The bookshelf he built for my office is a work of art.
my wife wanted a specific vanity for our master bath and nobody could find one the right size. Michael designed it, built it, fit like a glove. total pro
Ordered a queen bed frame with built-in storage drawers. The attention to detail is incredible — even the inside of the drawers is finished beautifully.
He made us the most beautiful kitchen island. Real butcher block top, solid oak base. Friends always ask where we got it. Highly recommend!!
Commissioned a chess table as a retirement gift for my father. Inlaid the board with two different woods. Dad was speechless. Truly one of a kind.
Michael did our whole basement — built-in shelving, bar area, media cabinet. Transformed the space. Finished ahead of schedule which was a nice surprise lol
The 3D rendering before building is amazing. We could see exactly what the piece would look like and made changes before he started. No surprises.
bought end tables from the Design Pine line. super affordable and way better than the particle board junk at big box stores. real wood at a fair price
